How to install security camera for qualified waterproof?

For outdoor video surveillance applications, users have to choose outdoor security cameras. Although most of outdoor security cameras featured with waterproof design, we also realize the importance of qualified waterproof installation. Waterproof is the key factor for reliable working of your video surveillance system, especially for those outdoor security cameras. In this article, we offer you some guidelines that should be followed on field installation for qualified waterproof.

Design for waterproof

Our outdoor security cameras implemented with enhanced waterproof design by following the requirement of IP66/IP67/IP68, which are IP (Ingress Protection) ratings proposed by IEC60529, to protect against the intrusion of solid objects, dust and water by mechanical casings. To achieve good waterproof protection, we extend the general waterproof design concept, which usually focuses on blocking water into the housing with a gasket, to “total-waterproof”, i.e., preventing water from infiltrating via cables and any possible adjustable points, which were usually ignored in the past. The major features include:

1. “Total-waterproof” design on cabling from joint, strain relief to conduit:

• Detachable junction good for installation
• Waterproof on strain relief bushing
• Accessory tape to seal the interstice between cable/conduit

2. Waterproof design for adjustment:

• Proprietary waterproof design for focus & zoom adjustment, no need to open chassis.
• User interfaces are buried & covered away from water infiltrating.

Installation for Waterproof

Waterproof may still fail even for a perfectly designed security camera if users don't have related knowledge on installation. Here we share some critical information that shall be noticed on field installation for waterproof.

#1. Maintain gasket:

This is the most critical factor to keep water out of housing. Inspect the gasket and it must be clean and free of cracks. Tighten the screws on housing firmly so the gasket is well-pressed to prevent water infiltrating.

#2. Keep cable dry:

Inserting the unprotected wires into a junction box is required to avoid water infiltrating.

#3. Drip loop:

Rainwater will run down along the outside of cable and drop off at the bottom of the loop, as shown on right figure. Without the loop, rainwater could more easily enter into the camera along the cable.

#4. Sealant:

Apply sealant such as silicone on holes, voids and gaps which have potential risk to water leakage. Following instructions on products users guide is highly recommended to eliminate the risk on installation.
