Sony is scheduled to launch IMX380, which is a 1/2.3 inch size CMOS image sensor. The new sensor adopts 1.55um pixel size architecture, the IMX380 has 12.4MP total pixels, can bring crisp 4Kx2K max. frame rate 60fps ultra high definition video to a wide range of smartphone and other consumer applications. It supports maximum 2.1Gbps high speed data transmission via MIPI-PHY interface.
In addition to keeping the exact same designs with IMX378 on pixel size, image size and pin design, the new sensor can be easily implemented into existing product layout by merely adjusting the drive settings.
Moreover, Power consumption is critical to the designers of smartphones, Sony IMX380 new sensor can lower 15%~40% power consumption (under different frame rate conditions) comparing the rival’s products. According to the information from Sony’s distributors, the sample of IMX380 is available in Q3 2017, mass production is expected in Q1 2018.
