Dashcam market expected to reach US$4.03 billion by 2020 globally according to the Transparency Market Research. Sony, as the global leading CMOS image sensor producer and supplier recently launched dashcam dedicated CMOS image sensor featuring several enhancements to improve the video shooting under challenging lighting conditions. The newly developed IMX390CQV supports LED flicker mitigation, while offering 120dB high dynamic range function.
Street signs and traffic lights utilize the LED light sources, as they quickly keep flickering will cause the LED flickering image problem to the cameras, this also impacts the capability of shooting video with accurate road signs and traffic lights info, the vehicle dedicated CMOS image sensor IMX390CQV is designed to solve this problem, by employing longer exposure time than the LED light flickering time, can reduce this impact to minimum.
The complete new IMX390CQV leverages the Sony unique pixel technology which supports 120dB high dynamic range video shooting, capturing crystal clear image even under high contrast lighting circumstances.
Comparing with Sony conventional 2-megapixel CMOS image sensor, the new sensor characterized with 1.5 times higher light sensitivity, the CMOS image sensor can see and capture color image under moonlight environment (approximate 0.1Lux), which greatly enhance the visual capability and reliability of seeing pedestrians and barriers.
