In ISC West in Las Vegas 2016, Ambarella, the leading provider of HD video solution, announces the launch of next generation 4K UHD SoC - Ambarella S5. The new model is based on 1.2GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU with floating point and NEON for user applications. So that it offers 4K UHD @ 120fps or 8K UHD @ 30fps video encoding with AVC/H.264, and 4K UHD @ 60fps with HEVC/H.265 compression standard.
In addition to 4K/8K video encoding, the S5 provides advanced features including ultra low light processing, 360°de-warp/lens distortion correction, multi-exposure high dynamic range. The S5 is the new member of Ambarella's H.265 product portfolio, it supports the high quality HEVC/H.265 video encoding with Main 10 Profile, it also features with Ambaralla's SmartHEVC technology to greatly reduce the video bitrate, according to the datasheet of S5, when camera delivers 4K@30fps video stream, the bitrate can be controlled between 512 Kbps and 4 Mbps, consequently, reduce the consumption of network bandwidth and storage space.
The S5 will play a critical role in the industry’s shift to 4K and H.265. With it, our partners gain a leading-edge image processor that delivers low power consumption, superior image quality, smart H.265 compression and a powerful quad-core CPU.
