In ISC West in Las Vegas 2016, Ambarella, the leading provider of HD video solution, announces the launch of next generation 4K UHD SoC - Ambarella S5. The new model is based on 1.2GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU with floating point and NEON for user applications. So that it offers 4K UHD @ 120fps or 8K UHD @ 30fps video encoding with AVC/H.264, and 4K UHD @ 60fps with HEVC/H.265 compression standard.
In addition to 4K/8K video encoding, the S5 provides advanced features including ultra low light processing, 360°de-warp/lens distortion correction, multi-exposure high dynamic range. The S5 is the new member of Ambarella's H.265 product portfolio, it supports the high quality HEVC/H.265 video encoding with Main 10 Profile, it also features with Ambaralla's SmartHEVC technology to greatly reduce the video bitrate, according to the datasheet of S5, when camera delivers 4K@30fps video stream, the bitrate can be controlled between 512 Kbps and 4 Mbps, consequently, reduce the consumption of network bandwidth and storage space.
The S5 will play a critical role in the industry’s shift to 4K and H.265. With it, our partners gain a leading-edge image processor that delivers low power consumption, superior image quality, smart H.265 compression and a powerful quad-core CPU.— Fermi Wang - President and CEO of Ambarella
Founded in 2004, Ambarella becomes the global leading developer of low-power, high-definition and Ultra HD video compression and image processing solutions. Ambarella, Hisilicon, Texas Instrument are three main SoC solution providers in today's IP video surveillance market. The Ambarella high performance video encoding processors have been widely used in security IP cameras, wearable cameras, flying cameras and automotive video cameras. Ambarella is the solution provider for GoPRO, Hikvision, and Dahua products.
