Troubleshooting tips for smart Wi-Fi video doorbell camera

Since traditional doorbells are so simple, they are extremely durable and sturdy. On the contrary, smart Wi-Fi video doorbell camera may encounter some problems because of many reasons such as instability of Wi-Fi connection, unsolved bugs in App, wrong settings and more. Here we are delighted to write this troubleshooting guide allows you to get the problem resolved by yourself.

Problem 1: You can not add doorbell camera to App via Wi-Fi

Your Wi-Fi doorbell camera needs to connect your router to be online, so that you can access it anywhere through smartphone App. Setting its Wi-Fi connection is the first step to get it work. Before embarking on adding it to App, you need to reset the device to erase existing Wi-Fi connection (may be configured in factory). After you done it, you can add it to App, if you failed, you may read this checklist:

  1. Almost Wi-Fi doorbell camera doesn’t support 5G Wi-Fi (802.11 ac standard).
  2. DHCP function should be enabled, so that the new device can obtain an valid local IP automatically.
  3. Moving device close to the router as near as possible, therefore it can have a strong Wi-Fi signal.
  4. Double check if your Wi-Fi password is correct.
  5. Wi-Fi SSID should not contain special characters (e.g. space, comma, period).
  6. Router’s Mac address filtering function should be disabled.

Problem 2: Wi-Fi video doorbell is offline, I could not answer door!

Just like your installed Wi-Fi cameras, the Wi-Fi video doorbell should be online always, therefore you are able to answer door or watch video anywhere anytime. Offline happens owing to your device (smartphone, tablet) can not access Internet or the camera dropped Wi-Fi connection, sometimes the remote server doesn’t update camera’s correct network function, so App can not establish the communication. Troubleshooting this problem, here are our advice:

  • Check if App or your smartphone can access Internet or not.
  • Pull down the device list on App to refresh the connection.
  • Go to your router’s setting, bind camera’s IP address with its MAC (physical) address. If you don’t do this, it’s great likely you will encounter offline error, because the IP camera’s released IP address will expire in every week if using DHCP (default).
  • Go to your router’s Wi-Fi setting, change “auto” channel to a less congested channel number e.g. 11
  • Try to use wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.

Problem 3: The chime doesn’t sound

Typically a smart Wi-Fi doorbell will have a wireless chime receiver, it makes doorbell sound when the call button is pressed by a visitor. If your chime doesn’t sound, obviously you should check the batteries inside chime receiver. Replace the batteries and check whether the chime works properly. If you use Yoosee smart Wi-Fi video doorbell camera, please note that you need to pair the doorbell camera (built-in a RF emitter) with chime receiver before use them.

The chime receiver connects with doorbell unit wirelessly, there is a distance limit or 75 to 150 feet. This range is suitable for small homes. However, if you live a large house then it’s great likely the wireless range can’t meet your requirement, you may move the receiver close to the doorbell, or you can use a wireless signal repeater (not Wi-Fi repeater, it’s a 433MHz signal repeater)/extender which is able to extend 2 or 3 times range. Additionally, please verify that both doorbell and chime receiver runs at the same frequency such as 433MHz. If they run different frequencies, they can not communicate each other.
