IPC Network Camera Video Encoding Settings

IP Security Camera Image Parameter Encoding Settings Explained

Unlike consumer security cameras, professional IP cameras can allow users to tweak each settings of camera. You're able to adjust image parameter and control video encoding. Before we embark on making the modification, we should know the meaning of those parameters, henceforth we are able to achieve our purpose.

Audio/Video Encoding Settings

Audio/Video Encoding Instructions
Compression Standard H.265、H.264 、MPEG4、MJPEG and more
Resolution Select right resolution format meet your requirements on video quality, the higher resolution, the higher requirement on network bandwidth.
Bitrate control Variable Bit Rate (VBR) or Constant Bit Rate (CBR), CBR means transmit video stream in preset bitrate. VBR means transmit video stream in automatically changing bit rate within a preset range value.
I frame/P frame/B frame I frames are key frames, the least compressible but don't require other video frames to decode, the more space of I frame, the lower bitrate, yet image quality is poor.
Vice versa, bitrate is higher, image quality is high.
P frames hold only the changes in the image from the previous frame. P‑frames can use data from previous frames to decompress and are more compressible than I‑frames
B‑frame (Bidirectional predicted picture) saves even more space by using differences between the current frame and both the preceding and following frames to specify its content.
Generally speaking,I frame compression ratio is 7 (the same like JPG), P frame compression ratio is 20, while B frame compression ratio can reach up to 50.
BP/HP/MP Under the same bitrate settings, the more complex video compression, the higher image quality, but having higher requirement on network bandwidth.
For example, if your IP cameras support H.264 video compression, the complexity of compression from high to low is High Profile, Main Profile, Baseline Profile.
Audio Input Line-in or Mic-in, if you're using active audio, you should select "Line-in", if using passive microphone, you should choose "Mic-in".
Frame rate Video encoding frame rate, unit is fps (frame per second).
When need to manually set shutter speed (exposure), to ensuring image quality, frame rate number should not be higher than electrical shutter speed.
Audio compression Presets device supported audio compression standard including G.722.1, G711ulaw, G.711alaw,
MP2L2, G.726, AAG and PCM.

Image Parameter

Parameter Instructions
Brightness The threshold value is mainly to adjust the overall brightness of the image through the linear adjusting mode.
The larger the value, the brighter the image, and vice versa. When the value is set larger, the image is easy to blur.
Contrast The threshold value is mainly to adjust the contrast of the image. The larger the value the brighter the contrast, vice versa.
Adjust value too larger will cause image dark portion becomes too dark, bright portion becomes over-exposure. Don't set it too small, will cause image blur.
Saturation This threshold adjusts the color depth primarily.
Adjusting saturation will not change image brightness.
Sharpness The threshold value is mainly to adjust the sharpness of the edge of the image. The larger the value, the more obvious the edge, and vice versa.
If set the value too high will cause image noise
Gama The threshold is mainly to change the brightness of the image through the Non-linear adjusting mode, and improve the dynamic display range of the image.
The higher the value, the brighter the image, and vice versa.
TV system 50Hz: In 50Hz AC electricity system, can ensure image doesn't appear transverse strips. The maximum frame rate of video at this time is 25fps.
60Hz: In 60Hz electricity system, can ensure image doesn't appear transverse strips, the maximum frame rate at this time is 30fps.
Da/night mode Day,color video. night, black and white video. "manual", manual switching day or night mode.
"Auto", camera automatically switch between color and black white mode according to environment illumination condition.
"Plan", according to preset schedule to switch day/night mode. "Sync external", sync with external IR board.
Back light compensation (BLC) Enable it when camera working under reversing lighting scenario.
BLC: automatic exposing according to scene can make objects more bright in image dark region.
WDR: enable it when camera working in wide dynamic lighting condition, it can decrease the brightness of image over-exposure region, meanwhile increase brightness of image dark region.
WDR ensures cameras to see objects clearly in image too dark and too bright region.
HLC: high light compensation, increasing HLC value can suppress brightness of image strong light region.
HLC can reduce the size of light halo, decreasing brightness of entire video.
Denoise Reducing image noise by using multi-frame de-noising process. By leveraging information between front frame and second frame to reduce noise
2D de-noise: may cause image's detail become blur. 3D de-noise: may cause motion blur for moving objects.
Digital image stabilizer (DIS) Trough calculating or comparing differ value of image algorithm to achieve digital image stabilization, can effectively reduce image jitters.
Enable it to make video more clear
De-fog Image quality will decrease when camera working under foggy or hazy weather conditions, when enable de-fog function the camera can auto correct image distortion to output clear image.
Mirror Change image up down and left right orientation.
Exposure Adjusting shutter speed, AGC, Iris to change image quality.
Shutter is a device between lens and image sensor, short shutter speed is suitable to shoot moving objects, long/fast shutter speed is suitable for static scene.
Gain control, controlling signal output, AGC means automatically gain control to enable camera output standard image signal.
White balance White balance setting, it can allow camera to offset interference color therefore can capture true color-reproduction image which is closer to the visual habits of the human eye.
Lens distortion correction Image becomes bend because lens radian is too larger, enable this function to make image more flat.
Corridor mode Enable corridor mode can reversely rotation image 90 degree, for example 1280x720 rotates to 720*1080; it can greatly extend camera view when it's monitoring corridor, aisle.
