Full HD 1080p/720p AHD DVR

A Complete Guide to 720P/1080P AHD DVR

We intend to provide you a complete guide to 720p/1080p AHD DVRs.  When selecting the AHD DVRs, it should be easy just like selecting an analog DVR for CCTV cameras. However, it turns out AHD product selection is far more complicated.  The number of channels, the recording resolution, maximum fps are three most important parameters when we plan to choose a DVR,  this is also the simple criteria to choose AHD DVRs.

This guide contains the frequently asked questions of AHD DVRs, if you think this article is helpful, please share it to your social media pages.

1# What’s 1080N resolution in AHD DVRs?

1080N is the half resolution of 1080p, that’s 960x1080. AHD DVR supports 1080N resolution can connect with 2-megapixel (1080p) AHD cameras.

1080P=1980*1080=2073600, 720P=1280*720=921600, 1080N=960*1080=1036800, So 1080N resolution is higher than 720p. In terms of image quality, 1080N adopts progressive scan sampling, its image quality is close to 1080P.

2# Why there is no 960P AHD DVR?

Using different CMOS image sensors is the only difference between 1.3-megapixel AHD cameras and 1.0-megapixel AHD cameras, the reset of hardware design keeps the same. It looks like 1.3-megapixel resolution will be better than 1.0 megapixel, however, because the AHD receiver chip only supports 720p or 1080p resolution, the current AHD DVRs support two resolution format - 720p and 1080p.

3# Is there any 16-channel 1080P real-time AHD DVR?

Currently, there is no 16-channel AHD DVR supports 1080p resolution real-time (25fps/30fps) recording. However, you can find 16-channel AHD DVRs support 1080p@12fps or 1080p@15fps recording. AHD products are designed for low-end analog video surveillance market, so the AHD DVR developers have no plan to devote time and money on manufacturing the high-end products. By the way, the other HD analog solution such as HD-TVI and HD-CVI also follow this strategy.

4# What's the difference between AHD-H, AHD-NH, AHD-M, AHD-L?

In my humble opinion, selecting the right AHD DVRs to work with AHD cameras is a bit hassle. The reason is AHD DVRs provide many different recording formats which we can't fully understand. Herein, we provide you the information about these recording formats.

AHD Cameras/DVR RX/TX Chip Roadmap

6# Does my AHD DVR support 960H CCTV cameras?

As we previously mentioned, NVP6124 (AHD 2.0 RX) as the receiving chip, can allow users to adjust each channel's resolution format including 960H CVBS/Comet, 1280H CVBS/Comet,720p (AHD), 1080p (AHD). Therefore, the hybrid DVR can simultaneously display different format resolution on 4-channel split view window. Back compatible with existing security cameras is the advantage of hybrid DVR. Most of AHD DVRs are hybrid type, they accept different video signals and recording resolution format (D1, 960H, 720p, 1080p).

7# Forget AHD DVR password, what should I do?

If you forget the AHD DVR password, you have to contact the reseller, and giving the current data & time displayed on your DVR to them. They will use a tool called [Super Password] to generate a temporary admin password, using this password you can login to reset the DVR or modify the password. Please note the generated password will expire after one day, and using the hardware reset (like taking out the button battery on motherboard) will not reset the password.
