4K UHD surveillance network cameras 8MP and 12MP

Undoubtedly, new wave of 4K UHD technology changes home electronics industry, since Sony,Samsung, Skyworth, TCL, Konka etc manufacturers launched 4K UHD Television, 4K UHD offers superior image quality, attract a large number of home appliances consumers. In global video surveillance industry, not only many reputable manufacturers launched 4K related products, 4K also gradually forms a complete product chain, has a great possibility to replace 720p and 1080p products. With the rapid development of digital video surveillance technology, the cost of hardware and software gradually decreased, 4K will become popolar within 2 years.

According to Moore's Law, processor speeds, or overall processing power for computers will double every two years. This also fits security field, video surveillance goes through analog, digital, standard definition, high definition four phrases, will inevitably move to higher definition, ultra high definition development, like the recently emerged 4K, even the future 8K, video surveillance industry develops to ultra HD is an inevitable trend.

4K UHD Resolution = 4x 1080p

4K UHD resolution is 3840*2160, 16:9 video aspect ratio, under this standard CMOS progressive scan can reach 2160P. 4K UHD network cameras utilize higher performance hardware platform, incorporated with 12 megapixel ultra HD CMOS image sensor, resolution can reach 3840x2160 pixels, which is 4 times higher than 1080P, and 9 times higher than 720p, meanwhile with true color reproduction, highly detailed image quality etc features.

4K UHD video requires min. 10Mbps bandwidth

Obviously, compared with 720p, 1080p, 4K has advantages on resolution, can have a large area covered, additionally capture details in monitored scene. However, higher resolution requires larger network bandwidth to transmit, one frame 4K UHD image equals 4 frames 1080p or 8 frame 720p images. Typically, one set 1080p network camera requires minimum 2M-4M network bandwidth, while a 4K network image transmission needs above 10M network bandwidth, to wide view angle traffic monitoring application, image contains many moving objects, sometimes the required bandwidth may exceed 20M, greatly increased transmission burden.

Poor light sensitivity +  low dynamic range

On one hand, the current 4K UHD network camera merely can capture ultra high definition video, the capabilities of transmission, decoding, storing still lag behind. Until today, despite 4K UHD has significant benefits, it still can't widely and smoothly used in video surveillance application like the 1080p and 720p. On the other hand, current 4K UHD network cameras have poor performance on the aspect of low light and dynamic range. Therefore, 4K UHD network cameras can deliver excellent images at day, but low illumination performance is poor at night, currently still can not completely adapt 24 hours monitoring. Besides, The equipped lens for the 4K UHD network camera must support 8 megapixel, which can effectively achieve 4K performance, there are not many 8MP lenses available in the market.
